STAGE DESIGN
"Luminaria"

I contributed in the ideation and execution la Chapelle Gatineau's christmas shows. On this page, I cover the 2022 Christmas show titled "Luminaria". The task was to achieve an intimate and cozy feeling while helping the delivery of the show's core message (despite no acting).

Luminaria was centred around the Christian belief that light (metaphorically: hope, goodness, truth, revelation) was given to humanity through Jesus Christ, and that his followers hold the responsibility of sharing said light with the world.
I opted to draw inspiration from the Haitian Christmas decoration, the fanal. It is a lantern in the shape of a house made of rigid white paper with coloured and translucent doors and windows:

Act 2: Light was shared with the world to be spread
Act 3: Darkness will put up a fight but light has already won
Drywall panels were sawn and primed, then painted with gouache. Coloured acetate sheets were glued to the back of the panels. We also created a main box as a focal prop.

The rest was a matter of playing with light settings!
